What is a stent?
Ureteral stents are soft, hollow, plastic tubes placed temporarily into the ureter to allow drainage around a stone or to speed healing after a stone surgery
When are they needed?
Stents are used for various reasons in patients with kidney stones. They may be placed in patients to help reduce pain from a stone, when infection is present to allow drainage, or when a stone is preventing a kidney from working adequately. Stents are also commonly placed after surgeries for stones, as in ureteroscopy, to allow healing and prevent swelling of the ureter.
How is a stent placed?
Stents are placed during surgery by sliding them over a soft “guidewire” which is placed up the ureter, which is the tube draining the kidney. See a video below of a stent being placed.
How is a stent removed?
Stents can be removed in two different ways. Sometimes, a string is left attached to the end of the stent. This string is allowed to come out of the patient’s urethra, the tube where he or she urinates. The string can be used to pull on the stent and remove it. In cases where a string is not left attached, a small camera called a cystoscope is inserted into the patient’s urethra after numbing medication has usually been administered. The cystoscope is then advanced into the bladder and the stent is grasped with an instrument and removed. See our post on stent removal for a video and more details.
How long can a stent stay in?
In general, most stents should only remain in for no longer than 3 or so months. If a stent is left in too long, it can form stones directly on it, making removal difficult.
What are the symptoms of having a stent?
While some patients with stents have minimal discomfort related to them, other patients will report symptoms that can range from being annoying to being severe enough that the stent has to be removed. These symptoms can include:
- Sensation of needing to urinate
- Seeing blood in the urine
- Bladder spasms
- Burning sensation during urination
- Pain in the back during urination or when moving
- Pain in the bladder
Is there anything that can help reduce the discomfort of a stent?
Different medications may be given to help reduce the discomfort of a stent. The most effective appears to be those from the alpha blocker class of medications including tamsulosin (Flomax) and Alfuzosin (Uroxatral). Other types of medications commonly given for stent discomfort, such as oxybutynin (Ditropan) or phenazopyridine (Pyridium), do not appear to be successful at reducing stent related discomfort in placebo controlled studies. Traditional pain medications are also less successful at reducing stent discomfort.
Hasn’t anyone come up with a better stent?
Research into improving stent designs will hopefully reduce the discomfort associated with them. Innovative stent designs currently being tested include stents embedded with medications to reduce discomfort and stents that dissolve by themselves.
In June of 2016 I had laser surgery to remove two kidney stones from my right kidney. One was two inches and the other was three inches in size. The Doctor placed a stint in my right kidney area. I had the stint in me for seven months and always had a stinging feeling after I would urinate. Well this past Thursday the Doctor pulled the stint out and after that I urinate but not as much. I guess I will have to play this one day at a time.
I have a 2 cm stone yes cm I got surgery done they also put stent in I’m in more pain now then before I feel as if I have to p none stop and it hurts so bad if I do go can I do something to make it better or to where I am not going to the bathroom every second
Hi think I am in the same situation, had my surgery on the 18th and quite sure they have left a stent in after asking that they do not leave one in. I have had a few ops and stents put in and last time they had to remove it cos it was more so uncomfortable.
I have a 25 mm stone that has been lazered and a stent placed. Now I am passing little pieces of between tiny grains and 2 mm. Now the only way I can get the bits to come out is with lots of water and exercise, however the walking exercise exhausts me. It’s been four weeks now and I have difficulty thinking that these little bits add up to 25 mm. The stent still in, oh yes, don,t bike ride, you can feel the stent rubbing. Love to get the stent out.
I had stone pain start on October 6th, 2016, tried to let it pass with no results. On October 13, 2016 I was rushed to the ER by my husband. It ends up I was in septic shock with Klebsiella Pneumoniae. The surgeon placed a stent & the stone is still there, it’s now almost 3 months later. Now due to the fact that my insurance has a $3000 deductible the hospital is saying that my scheduled surgery for Wednesday January 11th is not gonna happen unless I come up with 35% of the cost. WE just got our insurance loaded into the system as it came from my husband’s employer and Cigna messed up what plan we have at this time.
I am seriously stressed out now over this and it looks like I will not be able to have this surgery any time soon. Any ideas what to do?
I should add I lost my job due to all of this as well, so we are on one income having to pay rent, $622 a month for insurance and all our bills to boot.

I have veey tiny stones a 3mm in right kidney and a 4mm in left kidney.. the doctor put a stent in me on 27 dec 16 and told to wait for about a week.. and then he ll do the laser on 6 jan 17.. but due to technical problem in the laser machine my laser operation has postponed to 18 january 17.. well all i need to know is.. 1) do they put the stent back in after lasering or not 2)If yes, then after how many days can the stent be removed… i know these are like really tiny stones which could be cured through medicine..but i had to opt for operation just because of my job requirements.. i need to send them my clear reports as soon as its done… if anyone could just help me with answering this.. it would be much appreciated..
I ended up in the emergency room on October 25/16 due to horrendous pain in my back. A CT showed a 5.5 x4 mm stone in the right ureter which was the cause of the pain and a 2mm x 2mm in the left kidney and 3 non obstructing 3 mm in the right kidney. I was kept in the hospital and the next day I went to the operating room where the surgeon inserted a stent. I was kept in the hospital for 5 days due to a UTI and a blood infection. Anyway while I was in the hospital the resident doctor noticed that I was wheezing a little and decided to send me for a echo cardiogram and a CT of my lungs. The results showed that the systolic pressure in my lungs was very high registered 50mmhg. Normal lung pressure is below 25 mmhg. My heart is not enlarged T.G. Anyway I was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension which is incurable and progressive and the earlier it is treated the better the outcome.. As a result of these findings my surgeon will not proceed with the breakup of the stones or removal of the stent without getting permission from a cardiologist and a pulmonologist. I already have had a stress echo last week, awaiting for the results and the next appointment will be with a pulmonologist. I would not have known about the high pressure in my lungs were it not for the kidney stones because the only symptoms that I had were some wheezing and getting rather tired when I walked quickly. I always walk fast as I was always a fast walker. I think that the kidney stone was divine intervention. After the stent was put in I never had any pain or discomfort in any way and the stent is in over 2 months. I took no pain medication because I did not need any. I am very surprised that so many people have pain with their stents. I have read that it depends on how the stent is inserted either correctly or incorrectly. Maybe the pain is from incorrect positioning of the stent and the reason that I say that is because my surgeon sent me for an xray and an ultrasound of my kidneys and bladder and I noticed the wording on the reports of the xray and the ultrasound stated “right ureteral stent appears normally positioned.” By the way the xray showed that I still have 1 stone in the left kidney and only one in the right kidney, so I must have passed two. I drink about 8 glasses of water a day and I never drank water before.
I was hospitalized on Christmas day with a 7mmm kidney stone. I have had probably 2 dozen stones over the past 8 years or so, none of them very big and all passed on there own. Lucky for me, we have a amazing hospital where I live. I went to the ER becuase I could not pass urine. That had to be the most miserable feeling I have ever experienced.they asked if I wanted a catheter place or pain meds, give me a catheter, now. So after having a Foley placed I was given fentenyl that didn’t touch the pain, so they gave me dilauded. I was taken to CT where they found the stone right above my left ureter still in my kidney, the angle of the CT scan made the stone look like it was 5mm. In which case I had a 50/50 chance of passing it on my own. I was admitted after they found that the stone had caused a massive kidney and bladder infection which was why I couldn’t pass urine. I had a Foley for about 48 hours to help with drainage. Monday morning the Urologist came in to give me my options, which were wait it out and see if it will pass or have the ureteroscopy, with litho trips and have a stent placed to aid in healing for a week. He warned me that while the stent was in place I would bit a bit miserable with bladder spasms, frequent urge to urinate, modrate back and side pain, and a possible stinging and kidney pain when I did urinate. Well I picked the surgery, I wasn’t going to chance not passing the stone and needing surgery anyway, or passing a 5mm stone god knows when becuase that to me sounded way more painful that a week of cramps and peeing every 5 minutes. I had the surgery Tuesday afternoon, well that 5mm stone was actually 7mm, which drastically drops the chance of it passing on its own. I woke up grumpy as hell, I always do when I put under, they made me wait until I had urinated on my own at least twice, I was discharged and home by around 5pm. So 5 days into having the stent, the discomfort has gotten a bit better, I don’t have the bladder spasms quite as often, I still pass blood everything I go, the kidney pain with urination has subsided, as well as the infection has started to clear more noticably (while in the ER I was passing blood and alot of white blood cells in my urine, I received IV antibiotics twice daily while there and 3 bags on the first night, along with Levaquin once a day I was there 3 days total, and I was discharged with a 14 day round of Levaquin) I have never had a kidney/bladder infection that bad, and never want to again. Reading other people’s experienceso with stents I think it all depends on each individual body’s reaction to having the stent there, my experience hasn’t been that bad and has been fairly tolerable, I was given pain killers which help the back pain and cramps but do nothing for the spasm and such. But for me at least the effects of having the stent are much more tolerable that the stone or infection. The stent side effects for me are more of an annoyance than anything, having to find a bathroom every hour or so gets old, and the cramping and pain aren’t near as bad as that of a stone. I haven’t had to alter my day to day routine, I still walk my dogs do my house work, if I was working I’d be able to work. However I wouldn’t have gone back until maybe day 2 of having the stent, I had to learn a time frame of when I actually had to urinate and when the feeling was just my bladder being a drama queen. I don’t have any real complaints about my procedure, I’ll give an update on Tuesday when I have my stent removed.
I had ureteroscopy on 2nd December this year i thnk it was a result of dehydration and excess of coffee consumption. …….. on 15th of November i was getting late for my school so i ran to the stopage after breakfast …. but after the morning assembly in the school in the 1st period i was in my class a sudden abdominal pain occured my teacher told me tht its bcz of gas nd gave me sme medicines… but i started vomiting …..and it continued for whole day then i went to doctr he gave me 2 injections soon my pain was gone but after 1 day in the middle of the night…. it again the pain started…after ultrasound i got to know about the kidney stones i wnt to the hospital doctr adviced me to drnk water nd have citrus fruit but after 15 days again the pain of stones started doctr told me tht nw its the time fh the operation then by ureteroscopy he broke the syone nd put the stent in my kidney so tht it would help in fast recovery.?and now i m perfectly fine

I’ve had 6 lythrotripsy’s & now on stent #2 after right kidney obstruction, infection & shut down, I had to have stent In for 7days then lazer & new stent in for 7days, FOR ME, stent was excruciating!! I’d rather pass stones after lithotripsy then lazer, but again, every body reacts differently?
I’ve been dreading going to the toilet because of the pain.
However over the last few days I have been drinking lots of water. A full glass every time, instead of sipping little bits throughout the the. I think if you drink little bits the bladder fills slowly and you feel the urge to use the toilet more, whereas drinking larger quantities of water, the bladder fills quicker and the wee is a fuller flow. I find that having a fuller bladder reduces the pain a little.
Came home from a Christmas party on Dec 24, few hrs of getting home I started getting pain in my lower stomach. Thought it was gas or something. The pain got so bad I had to call 911, something I’ve never done before. After getting to the hospital and they took a CT scan they found out I had 2 kindney stones. So on Christmas I chose to wait 24 hrs to see if I can pass them on my own while in the hospital. No such luck so on Dec 26 they went ahead and went in and broke them up and stuck a stent in me. They will remove it after 7 days. I don’t wish the pain I felt that night on anyone. Urinating with a stent sucks BTW lol
I have a 8mm stone and I have a stint. At my initial appoint to discuss surgery I the doctor never told me about a stint. We discussed the surgery and I chided to have the scope done to remove the stone. Well, after surgery the nurse came and told me that he put a stint in. I was in so much pain it didn’t even make sense. I never got to talk to the doctor and the pain continues. I called the office because I have constant pain, especially when I go to pee. I have back pain and hot flashes. I go to the bathroom like every 5 mins and even when I go, when I’m done it still feels like I have to go. (Tmi) my private is very irritated and he said hell do my surgery February 7th. The stint was put in Jan 9. Of course the stint will have to be removed asap because I have to work and I’m in so much discomfort.
I had a stint years ago after the removal of multiple stones. My doctor said I was one of the nightmare cases for stints. It was awful, it was worse than the kidney stone. My body reacted with fevers, shakes, chills, I was afraid I was going to break my teeth. I will never have one again.
Stents are life savers. I used to dread even thinking about them, but I’ve gotten used to them. They key is: Having a spectacular doctor. Also, being a 5′ tall woman might be somewhat advantageous. If you constantly get stones and/or stents and every time you suffer, get a new doc.
I had a 5mm stone lodged outside of my left kidney and it was causing problems. The urologist went in and busted it up and left a stent inside. My surgery was on 12/10 and I go back on 12/20 to have the stent removed. It has been miserable goin to the bathroom and sometimes even moving hurts. I’ll be so glad to get this thing removed.
Hi. I got a stent placed 3 days ago. Try dicloflenac 75mg sustained release tablets. Worked like a charm for me. I suffered for 3 days and was having paracetamol which gave some relief but whenever i used the washroom, i would freeze with pain. After trying dicloflenac today, i almost forgot i had a stent in place! Consult with your doctor before changing/adding any medication. Get well soon!
you are not alone. I have had this stent a month and it is torture.
I had my stent placed on dec 7th as an emergency. I have a kidney stone but have an infection along with it. I stayed in the hospital for 6 days, and it seems like since they removed the catheter ( stent will be removed in a few weeks), even more so since I’ve been home, I have to urinate constantly. Does this calm down at all?
I have had mine since December 8th. Im sore as heck…and yes pee a little at a time…but very often!
I have to have a Stent put in, I’ve been in extreme pain and an MRI picked up numerous stones the largest being 16mm, 10mm these are not going to come down even with a Stent. How will the big ones be removed, can they be srunk?
They will lasered to break them up, then they will go in and remove the pieces. I know this because I had a smaller one stuck that had to be broken. I had this done yesterday.
They may temporarily put in a stent so any small pebbles can flow out.

The stent is to bypass the stones, allowing you to hopefully be and urinate pain free.
My stone got stuck and caused a blockage and severe swelling. The stent is inserted to bypass the stone and allow the swelling to go down. Once the swelling has gone down the doctors can zap the stones and break them up, making them small enough to pass yourself.
I had a 12mm kidney stone and got shock wave treatment. The stone broke down and passes but still had a couple smaller pieces pieces that are passable. Went today to get stent removed. Oh boy, trouble is not the word. They cleaned and numbed the tip of my penis but I was fully awake and unsadated. Worst pain I ever felt. Turns out he couldn’t get it out. Now I’m scheduled to go in Thursday ta be put under and get it out. Now I’m home in discomfort. Can’t wait ta get this thing out and get back ta normal.

I had a stent put in 3 weeks ago after an 11 mm stone was found..this is my 3rd stone in 5 years..and they are the most painful things ever!
Since having the stent I have experienced extreme stabbing pain down my leg,pain in my stomach and back.
I take so many meds and still not much relief..It has affected my everyday life.I cant walk more than 5 mins before I am in agony.
I have been to hospital 3 times in 3 weeks only for them to give me pain relief & monitor my blood pressure.I was discharged from hospital this afternoon after an overnight stay as I had been getting no relief from medication…
But the Urologists refuse to blast the stones (I have 2 more in the kidneys)..it comes down to money..If I had private health insurance my waiting period would be less.
I am now having to wait a couple more weeks before I see a urologist in the public system..then ill be an out patient..who knows how long ill have to wait.
I cant work,I barely sleep at night & I feel too tired and sore alday.
Ive read that most people can go ahead with their everyday lives,but this hasnt been the case for me.

I am going through this also the Doctor wont remove my stent until aftee surgery. I have no insurance single mom lots of hospital bills and today the clinic called I need 4,897.00 fot surgery.What do I do ?? This is soooo painful. Its hard to work

Omg I feel ur pain.. I just had my stents placed less than week ago. Ur story is exactly as mine no insurance no help. I have had this procedure about every 3 to 5 yrs since I was 19 and I’m 44. This is the first time I have had the problem with no insurance and getting treated so dismissed. I’m about to get a lawyer since the same practice keeps ignoring my calls and sent me home from hospital stating don’t call us we will call you. Ugh I feel ur pain dear
Yip, I also don’t have medical insurance and have to use the state hospitals. I collapsed in a shop a few weeks ago, was taken to one of the state hospitals, was left to sit in a hard chair from 5pm the evening till 4.30 am the next morning. Was sent in for x-ray when they picked up the stones. Given another appointment at another state hospital to have a Stent put in. I arrived at 6am, saw the Dr at 10am, he told me the procedure could be done at any time between then and 6.30 the evening, I asked if I could step outside for a few minutes for some fresh air, he told me rather not because if I missed my call I would be placed at the back of the list. (I thought he was joking), well anyway, I was given my theater gown, placed on a hard bench, and so the wait began, every time the theater door opened I thought YES, it’s my turn. By 2pm the afternoon I was pacing the corridors, sobbing like a baby, no painkillers, no water, nothing, I’m watching as everyone goes into theater, eventually at 6.15 the evening I got into theater. Little did I know that the Stent will be put in with a little numbing fluid, I felt sick to my stomach, but thought at least after this the pain will subside. Straight after the torturous procedure I was sent home, no pain medication nothing, the pain going to the toilet is just about unbearable, I’ve fear going to the toilet, and drinking anything because I know what I’m going to have to go through every time I need to wee (urophobia and Dipsophobia setting in). I spend hours on the loo, I just let my family know know that I’m going to the loo and every 15 min or so, they just knock on the door to make sure I’m still alive. My next hospital appointment is only 9 Jan. PS: I have found that drinking lots of water, a glass at a time, fills the bladder up quicker, and makes the urine flow stronger and less painful, whereas sipping the water and drinking little bits at time, doesn’t fill the bladder enough and then the pain is more intense.
Not sure insurance is the problem. I have EXCELLENT union provided insurance. Went to the ER 12/7. Found 9mm stone blocking left kidney. Sent me home to wait 5 days in constant pain to have a stent inserted. Surgeon sent me home to wait another 3 weeks, because he’s ‘booked’, to blast the stones. Then it’ll be more than a week to get the stent out. I can’t walk without excruciating pain. Not good for a grocery store clerk and server. I can’t work either job.
I am honestly having the same issues as most of you. The urologist cant take my stones out (10mm and smaller) because there is a lithotripsy machine that travels around 3 counties so we have to wait for the machine to come to our hospital. I have taken so many different pain medications (ibuprofen 800, Norco 10mg, tylonal, and even tried azo) and I am so miserable. I can barely function I cant even do a little house work or even go to the grocery store for 10 minutes without being in horrible pain. I have been in the hospital and hospitalized twice this month. Once to put in stint to bypass 10mm kidney stone and 2nd time was the stint had pulled out of my bladder and got embedded in my ureter and caused an infection and they had to put a longer stint in. I have been trying since the 8th of this month to get into see my urologist and they wont see me cause of out of network insurance, I finally found a urologist to see me next wensday but I am so ready to tap out. I just want to feel normal again.
I’m the same, the pain is unbearable, wee’ing is painful, I fear having to go wee. At times I spend between 1/2 to an hour on the loo, just dripping, every. Drip is so painful. Every drip is so intensely painful. I find that any movement is also painful, the only time it is marginally ok. Is if I lie on my back, living on either side just feels like there is too much pressure.
My daughter is having a stent inserted on Dec 16. She ‘s very anxious and can hardly function. I read all the comments, but no one says if it really solve the problem of draining the kidney. My daughter is afraid that she will be in too much discomfort and may not be able to work. Did any one of you had to stay out of work for a while ,or were you able to go back to work? Please, please someone answer me.. I do not know how to calm her down and she has another serious illness.
I just had one put in sadly I not been able to work because of the pain, stent does work for awhile this is my 2end placement of a stent I only have to keep it in a week n half then they going to pull it out
I’m a self employed driving instructor and have had to take off so many days of work, because I find the pain unbearable some days, and also spend a lot of time on the toilet, I only go for my next check up on 9 Jan, the stones are going to be shattered with shock waves. I just hope that they are kind enough to use anethestic for this treatment. The Stent was placed using only a numbing cream and I found it quite painful, and it still is, I’ve had it in for over week, the kidney is draining, but the pain is intense
Just had my sixth operation n stent today. Best advice. Ask surgeon to leave string on stent which allows person to simply tug gently for you go remove after 48 hours or so. No need to leave in much longer. I find stents vefy thm quite uncomfortable but necessary. God bless

The stent brings a lot of uncomfortable feeling, pressure on the bladder that makes u wanna go to the toilet all the time and pass urine, kidney pain during urination, but she has to drink a lot of water as the flow of the urine brings some sort of comfort. I’m not a doctor but I had this stent more than 5 times, I have one in me as we speak and i took 10 days off from work to rest. It’s bot advisable to carry heavy things at all and if her job related to that
If she has too much of pressure in the bladder she should go back to the doctor and have an xray done, because sometimes the stent can fall completely into the bladder. I had this case before, it doesn’t cause damage and nothing much to worry about but it brings a lot of discomfort. I wish you all the best.
I had a stent placed November 4. I was able to go back to work November 7th. I cannot feel anything and I go about my life as usual. I have a blockage and that is why I needed the stent. So far so good.
Elba, I currently have a stint and am waiting for the placement of it to heal. Two weeks. Then they take the stone out. Ten days later the stent comes out. Yes the stent allowed the kidney, which was blocked, to drain easing the pain greatly. I haven’t had any energy since this happened. Deep,slow breathing may help calm her down. It’s what got me through all of the pain.
Sorry to say this but I had a stent put in 4 days ago. I cannot move without pain, scared to go to the toilet because I know it will hurt..painkillers make it just about bearable. I will have to work this afternoon because I have no choice. I use a hot water bottle as much as possible. I wish I had been told beforehand..but..it doesn’t change the fact it is needed. Make sure she stocks up on painkillers. Driving under the influence should though not be reccomended. My Operation takes place in 7 days time to remove the Stone out of my Ureter. I just had stent put in 12/7. I have 2 stones and they said one was blocking ureter so they put stent in and purposely pushed the blocking stone back into kidney. I’ll have stent in for a couple of weeks before they go in to treat stones. I was prescribed Flomax (take 1 each morning) and Percocet (I’ve taken 1 each night). Drinks lots of water. There was a burning sensation in urethra when urinating the first two days. That’s gone. I also have pain in my kidney when urinating and it subsides a few minutes after. The pain is not bad compared to initial kidney stone pain. And has gotten less painful each day. Don’t do anything strenuous.

I’ve had my stent for about 3 weeks now and am scheduled to have this stone blasted Dec 21st. While not ideal the stent is better than the alternative of experiencing the horrible pain of the stone. Not pleasant but I have plugged along at work as a teacher and hope this encourages your daughter to hang in there.

Sadly, she won’t know till she wakes up and moves around for a day or two. Some get better after that. Mine is increasingly more painful with each day that passes and bear in mind that after 2 back surgeries, 2 c sections, and a massive breast reduction, I am no stranger to pain. This is simply unbearable though. I’ve been out of work for 2 weeks and its 2 weeks+ till my second procedure. Both my jobs require a lot of standing/walking and lifting.

I can totally relate! Had my 2nd back surgery end of October and developed, for the first time, kidney stones. Had a Ureteroscopy with stent placement last week and can’t wait to get this awful stent removed! I’ve never been so miserable! Feels like someone continually punching my stomach. I can feel the thing all the time and if I could I would rip it out of me! 2 weeks til doctor removes it. I’m sure that won’t be much fun either. I pray I never have to do this again. This has been a wake up call for me to lose some weight and eat better.

I had a model 800 implant installed after removing my prostate . The first one was defective and had to be replaced ,no fun. It worked great , but everything wares out , so down the road it was replaced ,and it has worked great also . I’m having problems again . V.A. attempted a ( CYSTOSCOPY ) that’s where they use a camera to look for problems in the urethra . scar tissue prevented the procedure , so they gave me some pills for my bladder . The implant is not working at all . They call me puddles ….

Not necessarily, but that’s pretty big. But they will probably try to blast at first and that might work at those for a lot of people
Not now a a days. They will only blast if they can see it in a x-ray otherwise they will laser it and pull the chunks out depends on doctor and if stone is visable
I had a stent put in two weeks ago. I have a stone that is approximately 30 mm. The urologist told me that it will have to be removed through an incision in my back. It would have been removed by now but I have double pneumonia and the procedure can’t be done until I’m well. The pain from the stone was the worst pain I have ever been in. With that said, the stent is about to drive me to lose my sanity. All I do every 15 to 30 minutes is urinate or feel like I have to. I’m totally sleep deprived from having this stent in. If I could yank it out myself I would! Fortunately, I see the urologist this week to schedule the procedure to remove the stone. I hope I never get a stone again in my life…I would rather give birth again (and I did natural childbirth) !
Hey Gen i can relate and Im a male! Cant seem to sleep for more than 2 hours at a time….hurts to pee…and generally feel like crap! I feel worn out..exhausted….I am amazed where many sites and posts talk of so called “discomfort” Thank god for pain killers and my heating pad!

I’m way late in this discussion. I had Kidney stone removed and a stent placed. I developed hiccups too. In fact I’m going on 5 days with hiccups. Any advice? Did your hiccups finally go away.

So i had my stone removed today in ottawa, canada. The stone removed was 4-5mm and they left a stent in the ureteral tube. How does it take for a person to capable to go to work?

I have a stricture in my rt ureter and have had one stent 2 years ago. After 3 UTIs, with quite a bit of pain, I went to ER and was admitted over night. Had a renal scan, second one in 3months. My hydronephrosis has gotten worse so my urologist is planning another surgery to take another look at what is going on.Will probably have another stent. My surgery is planned for Dec. 1 and I hope to be recovered by the end of Jan. when I have a trip planned to go to Israel.Wish me luck.
